Caribou Hunting in Iceland

Hunting season: July 15 to September 10. Recommended period: August to September. 

The hunting of reindeer in Iceland is a unique and very exclusive experience. Hunters can enjoy the privilege of hunting these wild and majestic animals in this rugged country, full of hot springs, volcanoes, and glaciers. The Icelandic reindeer was originally brought to Iceland from Norway around 1780, since then, they have naturally reproduced to survive the Icelandic winter, which is considerably harsher than in Norway.

The Icelandic reindeer only lives in the wild and there are only 800 -1200 annual permits issued, most of which are used by local hunters.

Temperatures vary between 3 and 20 degrees, and there are generally no mosquitoes or insects.

To apply: The number of permits for the 2025 hunting season will be around 1,450. Permits can be requested until February 10, 2025, and are entered into a public draw from which results are obtained at the end of February. A copy of the client's identification document (passport, hunting license, full address, and mobile number) is required to apply. 

To apply for the permit and enter the draw, a deposit of 2,500 € is required. In case of not winning, the amount can be refunded or left as a deposit for the following season. The hunting dates can only be confirmed once the draw is completed, and we will do our best to accommodate the client's wishes for specific dates.

The guides: We offer the best professional reindeer guides. Most of them live on the east coast of Iceland and all know the hunting grounds like the back of their hands. All have between 20 and 30 years of experience as guides.

Meals and Accommodation: Accommodation during the hunt is in a new and comfortable lodge. There is cold and hot water, shower, 2 toilets, etc. Three meals a day are served and all drinks are included (except alcoholic beverages).

Itinerary: 

Day 1: Arrive in Iceland in the afternoon, where hunters will be picked up. Take a one-hour flight to Egilsstadir, in the east of the country. 10-minute transfer to the camp.
Days 2 to 4-5: Hunting. A good breakfast is taken and then transferred to the hunting areas in the mountains. Hunting continues until nightfall when dinner is served. If hunting is completed before time is up, fishing for salmon and other species can be done. 
Days 5/6: Flight to Reykjavik and transfer to the international airport. A 2-3 hour visit to the Blue Lagoon can be made (not included in the price).
