Small Game hunting ground in Olmedilla de Eliz

Olmedilla de Eliz, Cuenca, España

Small game hunting ground in Olmedilla de Eliz (Cuenca), located 40 kilometers from Cuenca and 160 km from Madrid. The ground has an abundant amount of dove, thrush, and quail, we can also find rabbit and native partridge, but not in abundance. It is mostly made up of low scrub (bushes) although it also has areas of olive trees and pine forest.

- The ground is made up of approximately 1400 hectares, which corresponds to the entire term of the village. It consists of all types of terrain: flatter areas next to the river, low scrub areas, olive trees, pine forest…
- The ground has a great variety of animals, but not in great abundance, I will comment on that below:
• Partridge has its 8 or 9 flocks seen (so there are surely more) with its 10 or 12 partridges.
• Rabbit is the weakest part of the ground as it has little abundance, although some can be seen in certain areas of the ground.
• Very good half-open season for dove and turtle dove, it has quite a lot, especially in the pine forest area; and depending on the year, very good also for quail.
• Depending on the year, thrush comes in winter.
- In general terms, it is a very beautiful ground with its river in the middle and its crops (so the animals lack neither food nor water), but it is neglected, as it has been 3 years since small game has been hunted. Therefore, it would be necessary to kill foxes, magpies…. My opinion is that if it is cared for and respected, it could become a great ground.
