Driven Hunt in Matapegas - Llanas

Aliseda, Cáceres, España

Driven Hunt in Matapegas – Extremadura
Matapegas is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic estates in Extremadura. Its name is closely linked to the history of Spanish driven hunting as it is located near the mythical hunting grounds of Antonio Covarsí, and it is also an estate mentioned in his writings and hunting memories.
The area is formed by a succession of valleys and hills covered with thick rockroses, creating an exceptional refuge for a significant population of wild boars. Among them, one of the most well-known peculiarities of the estate stands out: the occasional presence of some albino specimens, which adds an extra appeal to a driven hunt that is already very special.
In the area of Morrón del Rosal, flanked by the valley of the same name, there is also an interesting population of high-quality deer, which in recent seasons has surprised with some notable trophies. Additionally, some fallow deer and mouflons are beginning to be seen more frequently in certain areas of the estate, although both species are still in the consolidation phase, making responsible management essential to ensure their future.
This is a very entertaining driven hunt, characterized by long contests, running barks, and continuous movements of game that will keep the hunter alert throughout the day. The positions are varied, with some wider stands found in the low areas, although medium shooting spots and the classic clearings that often provide great shots predominate.
The combination of history, tradition, abundance of wild boars, quality of the game, and the beauty of its terrain makes Matapegas one of those driven hunts that every enthusiast should experience at least once.
Without a doubt, a day that will not leave any hunter indifferent.
